Practicum in Peer Tutoring

Writing Center

Ball State University

Spring 2016

In this immersive learning class, I learned the different ways to handle backgrounds of the students in the writing center. How ever opinion matters and that you shouldn’t be quick to judge and label others. We at first read multiple articles on the behaviors expected of us in the writing centers before we even step foot in the center. After that, we silently shadow the more experience tutors for a coupe of weeks, then we did group session were the more experience tutor was the silent one and I led the session. Eventually I graduated to doing all on my own. I learned how to gently nudge people in the right direction instead O f just telling them up front how to fix things. This way they actually learned something from the session.
